These are the pics of how I hooked up the Hurst Shifter cable to the stock gear linkage. This allowed me to use the stock P/N start safety switch, the back-up light switch, and the gear indicator.

To do this, go to the auto parts store and buy what is called a cable stop. Remove the bolt stop and then the ball bearing. Enlarge the hole where the cable would usually go to allow the threaded end of the shifter cable to pass through. Put the cable through the hole and hold it in with two small nuts on both sides. Remove the original pin-type retainer on the stock gear linkage. Put a bolt and nut through the original hole and tighten. Screw the cable stop onto the bolt but only on a few threads. This will allow the cable to pivot as the shifter pulls the cable when shifted through the gears. For the rest of the installation, follow the directions included with the shifter.

I installed the shifter using the stock console and shifter cover. I positioned it so that is would fit properly in the shifter channel. I had to trim the shifter cover a little so that it wouldn't hit the metal base of the shifter but that is hardly noticeable. Because the stock shifter was used to secure the front of the console, I drilled a hole in the console (under the shifter cover of course) and bolted it to the shifter through an already present hole. This whole installation took me about 4 hours and turned out fairly well.
